Mobile World Congress is always one of the busiest and most exciting shows of the year. You have service providers, vendors and partners from virtually every corner of the world descending on the beautiful city of Barcelona for four days in late February – showing their latest products and services as well as entertaining their customer, prospects and partners. This year I am extremely excited about all of the great activities that GENBAND has planned for Mobile World Congress (MWC). One of the things I’m most excited about is the activities that we have planned with one of our strategic partners, Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE).
GENBAND is a key Technology Partner in the HPE Open Network Functions Virtualization (OpenNFV) Program. This year at MWC we will be a major part of the HPE NFV Ecosystem Partner Showcase (booth 5F31 in Exhibition Hall 5), where we will be collaborating with HPE to demonstrate differentiated NFV solutions targeting mobile service providers. GENBAND’s virtualized Wireless Access Gateway and NFV Cloud Manager software will be integrated onto the HPE Helion Open Stack Carrier-Grade NFV platform to demonstrate an elastic evolved Packet Data Gateway (ePDG) for Wi-Fi solutions for LTE.
We are excited about the numerous opportunities for mobile service providers that our NFV collaboration with HPE is creating. We are leveraging our Wireless Access Gateway ePDG capabilities and HPE’s Helion carrier-grade platform to enable mobile service providers to virtualize their packet core solutions to connect and authenticate Wi-Fi networks and enable a seamless user experience for Wi-Fi calling including transparent handover of Voice over Wi-Fi (VoWi-Fi) and Voice over LTE (VoLTE) calls between Wi-Fi and LTE networks, or vice versa.
The GENBAND Wireless Access Gateway (WAG) is a software-based solution that secures and intelligently manages mobile traffic from small cells or Wi-Fi access points to the mobile, cable or fixed operators’ packet core networks. Available for the largest 3G and 4G LTE small cell deployments, and for both untrusted and trusted Carrier Wi-Fi networks, GENBAND’s WAG enables subscribers to easily and securely access their mobile voice and multimedia services and enjoy seamless roaming and handovers between network types for an enhanced mobility experience.
We joined the HPE OpenNFV Partner Program in 2014 as a Technology Partner and have since worked closely with HPE and other ecosystem partners to help service providers achieve the goal of launching new services faster, easier and at a lower cost through the virtualization of core telecommunications network functions. Technology Partners consist of a select number of technology companies and vendors that collaborate on innovation, integration and support for the HPE OpenNFV infrastructure stack based on recommendations from the European Telecommunications Standards Institute’s (ETSI) NFV Industry Specification Groups (ISG).
The combined GENBAND-HPE solution will also be on display at the GENBAND booth (Hall 2, booth 2I31). I hope to you see you in Barcelona and if you have a chance, I encourage you to stop by either the HPE NFV Partner Showcase or the GENBAND booth to see some of the great things that we are doing to bring about the benefits of NFV.
