As we continue to evolve real time communications in a “software everywhere” world, there are multiple streams of development underway – in the physical network (NFV), on mobile devices, in the cloud, and within developer’s platforms – which create an intersection. In history it was often said “all roads lead to Rome,” and today in the RTC world, “all roads lead to user experience.”
This intersection is not straightforward – it is more of a traffic circle with multitude combinations of strategies service providers can choose from. While the economy continues its slow and steady recovery (and competition continues to heat up for subscribers and service revenues) – there are conversations going on everywhere about where service providers should place their financial bets. What we’ve learned at GENBAND, by working with hundreds of the world’s largest and most successful service providers, as well as partnering in an ecosystem that includes systems integrators, ISVs, and mobile device manufacturers, enterprises and the channel partners they work with – is that a strong strategy for growth takes into consideration all the elements that make it possible for people to communicate in real time, all the time.
This week, GENBAND will be out in force at the Carrier Network Virtualization Conference & Expo in Palo Alto, CA. While our emphasis at this event will be on the NFV applications and solutions we offer that support the key elasticity, scalability, automation and orchestration tenets for cloud and virtualized environments, we’ll also be sharing the broader vision that includes not just the how – but the why. There are huge gains to be made – and when our customers take a holistic approach to their overall offerings, they are winning.
Earlier today GENBAND announced it has joined the Alcatel-Lucent CloudBand™ Ecosystem Program. The Alcatel-Lucent CloudBand Ecosystem Program is designed to accelerate market development for Network Functions Virtualization (NFV), with an award open community of platform vendors, virtual application vendors and service providers who are developing NFV. As a member of the Alcatel-Lucent CloudBand Ecosystem Program GENBAND will access Alcatel-Lucent’s NFV lab to integrate key components of its NFV applications and solutions portfolio with Alcatel-Lucent’s CloudBand NFV Platform, comprising the CloudBand Management System and distributed CloudBand Nodes.
My colleague, Sanjay Bhatia, will be a featured panelist at the event and will take the audience through some of our key “in-network” differentiators, including distributed or co-located signaling, control and media plane capabilities. Sanjay will also talk about how GENBAND has also lead on the applications domain, launching advanced platforms like KANDY Platform-as-a-Service, and developing what we consider to be the most advanced “Over-the-Top” RTC application, fring. Sanjay will be a featured panelist in the Harnessing SDN and NFV for a Streamlined Network session on Wednesday, December 10 at 2:40 pm.
Mobil Broadadband is hotter than ever, and by thinking about the entire software ecosystem, both within the entire community, and as the basis for the future foundation of service delivery, at the intersection – in an orchestrated “technology circle” companies can:
- Develop and deliver more affordable services
- Expand their network capabilities and reach more end-users
- Reduce legacy technology and financial hurdles for the introduction of new services
- Scale network resources more efficiently
- Monetize current and future investments in the cloud
- Simply make customers happier
All roads that lead to happier customers, lead to better results and happier shareholders – and other stakeholders.
